Oscar's Foreign-Language Shortlist Travels to Austria, France, Denmark, Iceland

Austria's "Amour," France's "The Intouchables," Chile's "No," Denmark's "A Royal Affair" and Iceland's "The Deep" are among the nine films that remain in the race for the Oscar for Best Foreign-Language Film,
the Academy announced on Friday morning.Michael Haneke's critical favorite "Amour" and the international box-office hit "The Intouchables" have been leaders in the race from the start, and are augmented by a list made up mostly of the highest-profile films in the running. The shortlist is unlikely to cause much of the talk about egregious snubs that sometimes plagued the category in the past.
Other selections include Canada's "War Witch" (left), Norway's "Kon-Tiki," Romania's "Beyond the Hills" and Switzerland's "Sister. The shortlist is Europe-centric, with two films from Scandanavia and another from Iceland in the North Atlantic. Two films come from the Americas, although the Canadian entry, "War Witch," is set in Africa.
The shortlist was drawn from a record 71 submissions. It was chosen by volunteers from across the Academy who selected their six favorite films, and by a 20-person executive committee that chose three additional films for the shortlist at a Thursday night meeting.
Two additional committees, consisting of hand-picked 20 members in Los Angeles and 10 in New York, will screen the nine shortlisted films over a three-day period in early January, and will select the five nominees.
The three-step system was instituted in 2008, after the AMPAS Board of Governors ordered changes in the wake of a number of startling snubs in the category, including the acclaimed Romanian film "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days.
That film's director, Cristian Mungiu, made this year's shortlist with "Beyond the Hills.
Missing from the shortlist are a few notable films, among them Germany's "Barbara, Italy's "Caesar Must Die," Sweden's The Hypnotist (directed by Lasse Hallstrom) and South Korea's "Pieta.
The Academy never announces which films are put on the shortlist by the general committee voters and are added by the executive committee, though it's sometimes possible to determine which group is likelier to choose a film.
Of this year's shortlisted films, The Intouchables,A Royal Affair,The Deepand "Kon-Tiki" seem likely to be general-committee choices, while "Beyond the Hills is a probable executive-committee selection. "Amour," "Sister,War Witch and "Nocould potentially have come from either group.
The shortlisted films:
Austria, Amour, Michael Haneke, director; Canada, War Witch, Kim Nguyen, director; Chile, "No, Pablo Larraín, director; Denmark, A Royal Affair," Nikolaj Arcel, director; France, The Intouchables, Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, directors; Iceland, The Deep, Baltasar Kormákur, director; Norway, "Kon-Tiki, Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, directors; Romania, "Beyond the Hills, Cristian Mungiu, director; Switzerland, Sister, Ursula Meier, director.

Leslie Mann and Megan Fox go chest-to-chest in ‘This is 40

It takes a strong marriage to pull off the intimate scene in “This is 40” between actress Megan Fox and Leslie Mann, written and directed by Mann’s husband and collaborator Judd Apatow. Or maybe it’s just the stuff
of married men’s fantasies: Wife, mother and boutique owner Debbie (Mann) catches her best saleswoman Desi (Fox) in a lacy hot pink push-up bra and launches into an awkward discussion about the younger
woman’s perky breasts. “Are those real?” Debbie asks, to which Desi replies matter-of-factly: “Yeah, I’m just young.” Talk leads to touch – and then more girl-on-girl touch. Well, the “Knocked Up” director never backed away from a sexual sight gag.We saw Megan on ‘Saturday Night Live,’” Apatow told Yahoo! Movies, “and we thought, “Oh, this girl’s wickedly hilarious, and she probably won’t get a lot of these opportunities. So, let’s give it to her, and show everyone how funny she is.

OK, that was a safe answer from Judd, who wrote the scene. Again: standing behind the camera while your wife touches the breast of one of the sexiest women in Hollywood sounds like something even voyeuristic Alfred Hitchcock wouldn’t have attempted. According to Apatow, “I get so uncomfortable with even partial nudity in movies. I’ll do one or two takes, and feel weird. Megan is a beautiful woman, but she literally changes the temperature of a room when she walks in.
“Megan just has great boobs,” Mann confessed to Yahoo! Movies. “Better boobs than I’ve ever seen in my life.I feel very protective of younger actresses because it was so hard for me in the business," said Mann, 40, about her 26-year-old co-star, Fox. And she had other feelings, too. “I wanted to get it over [with] as quickly as possible, because I knew it was uncomfortable for her, probably -- or maybe not. But just in that situation I knew there were a lot of dirty boys around having weird, gross fantasies. And so I wanted to get her shirt back on as quickly as possible

Sonakshi:I want to be a part of big films

Sonakshi Sinha talks about her choice of films, her formula for success and playing wife to Chulbul Pandey in 'Dabangg 2'Sonakshi Sinha can't stop raving about her upcoming sequel opposite Salman Khan, the first
outing of which catapulted her to overnight fame. Dressed in a pair of denims and a Being Human t-shirt, Sona speaks about her character Rajjo and working hard to remain on top of the game...You are perhaps the only actress who has been repeated in a Bollywood sequel...

I am very happy and thankful to get the second film as well. I think Chulbul and Rajjo compliment each other and their romance works. She is not called his better half for nothing. Chulbul is incomplete without Rajjo and so is she. The story has been taken forward from the first and in it something happens to Rajjo that becomes the turning point in the film. Dabangg-2 has tapped into the happy phase of marriage and I think it's very cute. The trade is saying that you are as big as the Khans...
I think it is too early in my career. I think I am truly blessed and all I can say for now is that I am a professional actor who works hard and that is what is paying off for me. None of my producers complain about me. I know people feel that I have got everything very easily but I know how hard it is to sustain this.
You dialogue Thappad se dar nahi lagta sahab, pyaar se lagta hai created euphoria. Are there some more emphatic lines like this in the sequel?
I just mouthed the line as the dialogues were given to me. We never thought that it would become so famous and there was no conscious effort made in the first part and neither it is in the second. There are many things that I believe will click with the audience.Your last film Son of Sardaar too hit the Rs 100 crore mark?
It feels great and I feel lucky to be part of all these films. The success is all the more sweet because of the difficulties we were facing before the release. When you overcome all that, it is a fantastic feeling.Do you have a secret formula for success? Every film you do (except Joker) does superb business.
I watch a film like an audience and come home and talk about it. Similarly I listen to a script like an audience would, so I guess so far it has been good. I want to have fun on the sets and entertain people. Are you not open to offbeat films? When my film with Vikramaditya Motwane comes out, people will notice that I have done different work. It has given me ample scope as an actor. But the fact is that I prefer to do the films that I am doing now. I have fun doing larger than life roles. Who doesn't want to be a part of big films? The critics have always panned you for your weight but it has worked in your favour...
It makes no difference to me. I have been brought up in a way where I have been taught to be myself. My father came from a small city like Patna. He was tall, dark and skinny and he made it big in the industry. I am healthy and happy and all these are not my issues at allAre you doing stunts in your film?
I wish I could but I can't as I am wearing sarees.
